Classic HUD skin (not updated for 5.15)

First of all I want to warn you that this is not old HUD. Classic HUD skin (where the key word is “skin”) is a small redesign of new updated HUD that was introduced with patch 5.14 into old classic style. Anyone who is familiar with modding may know how many HUD skins we had on old HUD, some of them were official like Shurima, Hexakill or Freljord HUDs. Of course there were unofficial HUD mods featuring other themes like Battlecast (dark red), Challenger (bright golden), Void (Purple) and other skins. With the new HUD I tried and managed to recreate some of these interfaces on the new HUD.

This skin pack features 8 HUD skins, each with unique look and some with tiny special features. Lets take a look at all of them.

  • Bilgwater tint – mostly uses dark scratched/wooden orange colors. Small feature – Bilgewater sign above champion portrait. Main goal of this tint was to create something dirty, dark and not so clean like classic HUD. This tint fits very well with all the Bilgewater champions, and especially fits well with the new Butcher’s Bridge map.
  • Arcade tint – this is actually colorful and rainbow’ish HUD with some interesting features and even easter-egg! One of them – dynamically changing colors for level-up buttons and passive icons. Above champion portrait you may find Final Boss Veigar sign that represents whole line of Arcade skins. And one word about easter egg – this is a small wellknown coin from Mario. Find it! It won’t be hard ๐Ÿ™‚
  • Red tint – this is pretty simple recolor of classic golden HUD into dark grey-red color theme. I think this tint will fit really well with many champion skins, like Eternum, Battlecast or Spec-Ops. There are no special features.
  • Freljord tint – winter is back! At least on HUD. This tint is for those who love to play on Howling Abyss or with Freljord/snow/winter themed champions. Core feature is unique design that uses parts from old Freljord HUD.
  • Underworld tint (Silver) – this is pretty simple recolor with silver and cyan color theme. This tint was done specially for those who may like non-agressive colors with silver/grey as core. Animations have default cyan/green color.
  • Void tint – another standard recolor that features purple and pink as main color. No special features.
  • Underworld tint (Green) – unlike silver tint above this one uses pretty unique design. Anyone remember Hexakill featured game mode? Here it is. On same level as Freljord HUD this tint features Hexakill HUD from Twisted Treeline map. Main color of HUD and animations is green.
  • Golden tint – nothing to say. This is a recreation of old League of Legends HUD with all the original colors and design elements. As I said above I can not fully bring back old HUD, also I want to say that I really enjoy the new one. So this tint just brings back some old and nostalgic look to new interface. In one of latest updates recieved recolored animations and level-up buttons from cyan to golden. Less blue!

Also I made some general changes that are included in all tints.

  • Some stats now have old icons. Not all stats but only those that we had before HUD update.
  • Camera lock and Settings buttons near minimap are invisible now but still can be pressed if you mouseover them. I removed them because I think they don’t fit with the design of whole HUD. Also half of settings button was covered by new minimap border.
  • Old shop button – why not?
  • Another small change – more clear circle indicator (under portrait) for levels. I removed inner circle so levels above 10 now are easier to read.
  • A very small aesthetic change with nostalgic vibe in it – CS icon is purple now.
  • Level-up circles under abilities were replaced with more clear and readable squares.
  • Ability borders are darker now.
  • OOM (Out of Mana) color now is dark-blue.
  • Less contrast icons of allies and enemies above the minimap.
  • Coldown color is more different from OOM and fits with every tint color theme.
  • Health and resource bars now are more smooth and less noisy, also no more “2 bars – same background” effect.
  • And the last small change – I removed background shadow from ally teammate icons above minimap. Reason behind this background removal is simple – it looked strange for me, why enemy team had no shadow under their portraits while our team had?

  • 24.07.2015
    • EXP bar recolored from purple to orange, like on old HUD
    • CS / KDA / VS-Kills background above minimap is darker
    • Mute and DJ Sona music icons were fixed and are visible now again
    • Minor color adjustments to all Classic HUD tints
    • Square borders for stats icons were removed
    • Ability level blocks (under ability) now are a lot more readable (especially on low scales)
  • 25.07.2015
    • Ping indicator (top right corner) now is a lot more clear and brighter
    • Square borders for active items are visible now again. Their color changes depending on tint (golden for classic golden tint)
    • Positive and negative passives and icons now again have blue/red borders
    • Ally ultimate timers are slighty brighter now. “Ult ready” indicator is also more readable (less glass effect)
    • Scoreboard blue-red background is slighty more colored now
    • Scoreboard middle-line divider is now 100% in the middle. In original HUD it shifted to the blue side.
    • Scoreboard portrait borders are darker to decrease detail clutter of the whole window
    • Level-up blocks under abilities are less bright across all tints
    • Icons above minimap are normalized across all tints
  • 28.07.2015
    • Experience (EXP) bar color now fits with average color theme. I.e. green for Arcade, purple for Void, etc.
    • Minor color adjustments across all tints.
    • New health/resource bars design with abstract lines as background.
    • New design of death recap window that fits with each of 8 themes.
    • All 7 tints got replaced gold icon in Item Shop window. 8th one (Arcade) got a special one – Mario Coin.
    • Options / Item Shop / Surrender / Alert windows got semi-recolor to fit HUD theme. It is impossible to fully recolor them since some colors are determined by RGB numbers and not by textures.
    • Surrender vote now appears higher so it not covers ally and enemy champion icons.
  • 29.07.2015 (These changes were inspired by QoL HUD Tweaks)
    • Golden tint recieved color adjustments:
      • Cyan elements: recall, passive ability and level-up animations were recolored into golden.
      • Coldowns were recolored from green to golden. Less blue for golden theme!
      • Level-up “pluses” are golden now.
    • All tints recieved less contrast icons for dead allies/enemies (above minimap)

Installation (NOT UPDATED FOR 5.15)

  1. If you don’t have Wooxy, get it
  2. Download archive with 8 Classic HUD skins and unpack it.
  3. Choose what tint you want to use then select needed wxy-file.
  4. In Wooxy go to Skins and drag-n-drop selected wxy-file to Wooxy window.
    Or click Add package and select wxy-file.
  5. Select imported skin and Install it.

  1. Hy i want to ask if u can help me ๐Ÿ™‚ I want to make my own custom hud i have the design but when i make it in PS and savit as dds file in game some of the design are missing i dont know why ๐Ÿ˜ฆ If can u make a basic tutorial or somthing to help me out pls.

    • Never forget about Channels. Go to Window -> show Channels tab. There click Ctrl+6 (or select Alpha channel). It can hide some elements of your HUD because in alpha channels you can set up transparency, and if you editing edges if default HUD, you also need to edit them in alpha channel too.

    • I think between “today” and “some days”, some themes were updates, some – redone from scratch, some deleted and some added.

    • I have tested for over an hour trying to change the font settings from font type to font size, none of the changes stick as there is some overarching file controlling preset settings to the hud. This is either server side or stored in the bin files which cannot be changed. It seems we can effect the font color but cannot edit the size of the text or the type of font used.

      you could replace the font file type with a different one and keep the same name to trick the system into using a different font however I don’t know which font is used across the in game hud and the system files contain over 70 font files. It would take a while to find the correct one.

  4. I was wondering if you could change the font to be less fat. I dont like the thicker font choice they went with. I like my HUD’s to look crisp and this new stuff just makes it look ugly.

    • Well I have no idea how to edit bin-files that contain font information. But I managed to do some improvements “around” font (like slighty darker background for health/resource bars or greeny boosted stats).

  6. Do you have any idea of what file to edit to put back the old HUD font ? I have scaling issues with the new one (it doesn’t scale as it should with the DPI windows setting) and I don’t like it.

  8. Can you make Ally Circle Ult like our circle profile ? I mean for exemple with arcade HUD , our profile is pixel so it could be nice if our ally profile ult are pixel to ^^ (sry bad english xD)

    • They are pretty small so adding pixelated effect would add some clutter. I decided to keep pixelated effect only for champion portrait border. The rest HUD is just colored.

      • Hey since they hud has been update on SR in TT is the old hud is any possibility that you could make the old hud match with SR?
        i like better the new hud but i want to have it to play sometimes with the old calssic style since the are also people who prefer the old HUD.
        Do you think you can do this?

        • As I said in other comment, I have zero knowlege in editing bin files. I can’t bring old HUD because don’t know how to do that… and I don’t want to do that. I really love new HUD and prefer to work with it by bringing some old details.

  10. amazing! i use void and underworld green skin
    but i don’t like some features
    can you create a custom custom void and underworld green skin only for me? ^^

    -shop and options got no skin
    -i prefer life and mana/energy/rage bar of official new hud
    -i prefer purple xp bar

    • I don’t know how to edit shop and options textures.

      Purple exp bar is only for void skin since it matches with average color theme. Otherwise it becomes out of design.

      I won’t change new smooth life/resource bars just because they don’t have same picture/texture (two bars one above other). This is just smoothed version with slighty different picture.

          • Yes yes I already found them before ๐Ÿ˜€ Just managed to write CLARITY in search and found all new HUD textures (well not all, but everything that have editable DDS-textures)

    • Well, next update I already included redone health/resource bars. They are filled with abstraction lines/waves now and look not so repititive like default ones.

      • i know about this.. i was trying to do a hud for another game .. (on my old pc) and i did this and didnt work . so i though it something else .. but i think it was just the bad pc

  12. The bar EXP should be for Arcade : Green , Void : Purple , Underworld : Green , Classic red : red , Golden : don’t change , Freljord : Blue , Bilgewater : don’t change

        • No, the PLUS is a special part of this classic hud mod that brings back some old HUD elements such as pluses, golden borders, yellow exp bar and other small stuff

  14. Thank you for these hud tints!! They’re awesome ๐Ÿ™‚ One thing though, I’m using the classic golden tint and there’s no highlight border around items with actives. It would be great if you can fix this so that the borders show!

  15. Just a warning for everyone who already had the HUD but re-downloaded it for the updated versions: Be careful when reinstlling it. I simply uninstalled –> deleted the old one and then installed the new one. When I did this I couldn’t launch a game anymore. So yeah, just be careful and try to exit wooxy after uninstalling and then installing or something, just to be sure.
    That being said, if this happens to you you can always repair your client like I did. It took ~10 minutes I believe, and my computer is not exactly high-end.

    • Go to \lol_game_client\DATA\Menu\Textures\.. There you will find all the important HUD textures (excluding shop, settings, surrender and deathrecap windows)

    I really liked the Arcade HUD. it looks fine when the HUD Scale is set to 0, but if I try making it any bigger, it becomes pixelated. Is there any way to fix this? Thank you.

        • Done. Reuploaded with no poxelated effect. Portrait circle border is still pixelated cus I think it’s pretty nice effect, at least here ๐Ÿ™‚ The rest part now is like original but colorful
